Got the new Kasabian album and i have to say its sounding pretty good so far. They have developed their own sound now and dont sound like a band from the Midlands trying to sound like a band from Manchester. Rock on!

Sounds good.

Was debating buy the album anyway.

Got Thom Yorke, Hot Chip and The Fratellis albums recently. All good, though stuggled to warm to Thom Yorke for a while. Can't decide if it's great or just a load of whining and casio keyboard noise. Thin line between genius and crap I guess.

Hi Folks,

I'm still listening to Graham Coxon's last album - Love Travels . . . it's great - especially if you remember the new wave era from the late 70s to early 80s.

The last album I bought was Ta-Dah by Scissor Sisters

Lee Griffiths

I did quite enjoy Scissors Sisters last album, though am getting abit fed up with the "future of pop" praise that's been knocking about. Over-rated much?

What's everyone think about Thom Yorke's new solo stuff then?

I fear Thom Yorke's solo stuff. I grew up in Oxford and Radiohead are very, very dear to my heart; I've never quite recovered from the letdown that was Amnesiac. Quite like what I've heard on the radio though.

What I've been listening to of late: Zero 7, Sia Furler (the female singer that performs on some of Zero 7's stuff), Howling Bells, Nouvelle Vague and the daily arguments about whose turn it is to make the tea... :)

Scissor Sisters 'Ta-Dah' bought it off my boss as he order 2 online by mistake.

Other recent purchases from Tesco who are doing some dirt cheap discs at the mo, which are even cheaper for me thanks to the wife;

The Automatic 'Not Accepted Anywhere'
Beastie Boys 'Licensed To Ill' (Absolute classic)
Black Eyed Peas 'Monkey Business'
Hard-Fi 'Stars Of CCTV'
Jamiroquai 'Dynamite'
R.E.M. 'Around The Sun'
Stereophonics 'Live From Dakota'

I've had Zero 7's 'Simple Things' & 'When It Falls' for ages now and they are both great albums.

Did anyone watch Channel 4's 100 Greatest Albums last Sunday, not bad a few inclusions/exclusions that I didn't agree with but as I've got 63 off the 100 I can't argue too much.

TheThirdLeg

Was this a new top 100 Skywalker or was it a repeat of that show that was on a few years back? What was the top 10? I didnt want to start watching it as i had an early start on the Monday and i couldnt be staying up til midnight.

I watched some of it, but when they got to Robbie Williams, I changed the channel in disgust. It's just such a horribly predictable list. Oasis and Blur's albums were fun at the time and all, but they are not among the 100 greatest ever made. And I can't stand Coldplay. Pleased to see Jeff Buckley in there at least.

I own 14 of them.

I have 37 of them. I think it has been on before, maybe.

Anne - what albums should be taken out and what do you think should be in? Robbie Williams in there is questionable but it all comes down to what people like i guess. In 10 years i highly doubt he will be in there as these kind of lists always have the obligatory contemporary 'classics' in them. OK he may be a good entertainer but this is a greatest album list. I couldnt name a song off it and he didnt really write it himself so no he doesnt deserve to be there.

However i think Definitely Maybe deserves a space up there, listened to it the other day and it sounds so good still. But i guess thats the beauty of music and films, we all like different things so it stimulates good debate.

D'oh! I should look at previous thread pages : ?

I have 15 on CD, and another 2 on Vinyl

And I've been thinking about Parallel Lines and London Calling on Vinyl for a while too

Lee Griffiths

The list is a bit all over the shop. Agree with lots of the inclusions, but of course, you have to be a little dubious of a list that places Cold Play's Parachutes above Pet Sounds (which is number 34 for some crazy reason).

What's the world coming to I ask ya?

Also listening to XFM the best god dam radio station on the planet, who have just set up a free concert at the Roundhouse in London with none other than The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

“Xfm has teamed up with the Red Hot Chili Peppers to stage an exclusive free gig. This live concert will take place at the Roundhouse in Camden, London on Wednesday November 22 in what will be the band’s last UK show this year.“

Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
Bob Dylan - Modern Times
Lily Allen - Alright Still
The Fratellis - Costello Music

There are loads more, but I'll let someone else speak!!

If you can manage to seperate the 'mockney', wanky image of Lily and just listen to the music, it's a great little album. Honestly.

sorry but did you think SMILE was good. the song makes me turn my hearing aids off (both of them) so it doesnt give me much hope for the rest of the album, i heard that when she finished promoting her 1st song she said she needed a break, hope its a very long one!!! has anyone guessed i dont like her yet?? :p

Anne
27-11-2006, 12:32 PM
The problem for me is the 'mockney' thing isn't just in her image, it's in her voice as well. Plus the lyrics really don't do it for me.

I didn't like 'Smile', and it put me off buying the album for a while, but took the risk the risk anyway. Glad I did though.
