i dont really have mine in any order, i do try and keep the series together.

did think about putting them in alpha order but then realised that i would have to shuffle them all if i went out and cout something beginning with an early letter.

I find ordering by genre too complicated as there's too many crossovers like sci-fi horror etc.

Alphabetically as displayed, but with the filter system on excel, I can actually easily choose them in relation to personal "Out of 5" rating, guidance rating, run time, actors involved, director, year, and genre.

I used to have them all in order but after you get 1000+ it's pain in the arse...Now I just put them where I have space :D

I do mine by vague genres, largely because otherwise I can never find the movie I'm looking for. I didn't actually start doing it for myself, but for the people I lived with at the time. They always wanted to borrow stuff, but having no idea whereabouts it might be used to drive them nuts.

i order my dvds by actor/actress
then academy awards wins/nominations
then directors
then comic book/graphic novels
then age certificate as long as a series isnt affected
like spider-man and blade and the godfather trilogies

I'm with Tim. Vague genres. Although generally they're a mess, because I can never find the time to order them properly. I've thought about doing a mrb style spreadsheet, as it would be very handy (especially as I keep lending DVDs to friends and can never remember who has what, or even if I've actually got something on DVD or not).

I have my DVDs listed on a word document to keep track of what I own, each title also has a hyper-link for quick and easy reference on each film. I also have an Excel document for keeping track of what's out on loan and exactly how many I currently own.

In terms of ordering my DVDs on shelves then it's all random.
