i've heard from my work mates that others have shut down to,whats happening? is this the end for blockbuster? are video shops a thing of the past now? anybody else noticed this?

Sorry to hear about your friend losing his job But im glad that Blockbuster are being hammered. They spent years hammering away at independent video stores (like the one i owned) and along with Warners and Fox were responsible for the collapse of the independent video industry. Im just glad that BB are now feeling the pain that they caused others to feel years ago with there sneaky dealings and cheap films from the studios whilst everyone else paid stupid prices.
Due to all those people who download films cheap off the internet  , lots of DVD shops are closing down or losing money now.
A perfect example is the closure of Music Zone, and most recently the laughably poor HMV and Virgin "Spring sales" :(

ok but the fact is...where are we supposed to go to rent stuff now????
there are no other video shops around,i have downloaded stuff but the vid shop was always a good source, for console games n food too.i think its a shame as we are really leaning towards,or pratically there, never leaving the home.
i dont wanna order a dvd then wait for it in the post, neither do i wish to download stuff on my comp all the time as i would rather watch it on me telly, call me old fashioned but i prefer the old way of actually renting for real.you never know..what happens if u cant download or find what yr after?there was always bb to check out.i can see the same happening to cinemas at this rate, doubt if u will but i bet u its coming, slowly.
ps.stewieB...i dont have any mates at bb,i meant my work mates from where i work,bb's are shutting all over the shop, excuse the pun.i think its sad.
I agree with you Hubbs.
No matter how cheap you may be able to get a DVD of play.com, it will never be an adequate substitute for meandering around a store, checking out 10 DVDS you want to buy, and eventually only buying one or two :).
