Below are a number of films that have more than one version. Id like to know which versions of the films you prefer and if possible. Tell me why its better than the other.
Aliens (theatrical or extended)
The Abyss (theatrical or extended)
Terminator 2 (theatrical or extended)
Kingdom of Heaven (theatrical or extended)
The Godfather Trilogy (theatrical or chronological version)
Gladiator (theatrical or extended)
Apocalypse Now (theatrical or redux)
Donnie Darko (Theatrical or Directors Cut)
any more?

It would take too long to reply to all of these!
However, I thought Apocalypse Now was too long already. The Redux version thus actually seemed to last longer than the Vietnam War itself.
I did enjoy seeing the extra bits though so I don't know.
I was a bit unimpressed with the director's cut of Donnie Darko - there was just too much going on. It felt like a mishmash of ideas (e.g. the Watership Down stuff) and it also gave away a little too much with the pages from the Philosophy of Time Travel and suchlike. So I actually prefer the theatrical cut.
There's plenty more that could be added to the list too, like Blade Runner. And of course the uncut Fight Club is coming out now...

the uncut fight club really isnt that much different.
split second if that where Ed Norton is battering Jared Leto (nearly typed Jay Leno) there, what a film that would have been.
The Donnie Darko directors cut is where my topic came from. I own both but havent watched the Directors Edit yet. Ive heard that its not as good. But didnt want to sell it until ive viewed the thing.
Apocalypse Now Redux i thought was great apart from the long drawn out French Plantation scene.

Where is LOTR...Probably the ultimate extended cuts out there.
King Kong...Jackson version
Lethal Weapon movies 1-3
Underworld
Con Air.......
You know the list is just waaaaaaaaaaaay too big...I would be here all day. I think most movies now have an extended edition thanks to dvd... :D
Out off all the movies you said, only Donnie Darko and the Godfather have decent theatrical cuts...The rest are far far better in the extended editions (I can't watch the first 4 if it's not the extended edition)

Cant believe i forgot The Rings. Mind you i cant watch the Theatrical Editions either so perhaps as far as i am concerened there is only one version. The Extended One ........precious!!!!!!
Anyone know what the differences are in Con Air.
Ive watched the extended Enemy Of The State and couldnt see much difference.
