is it me or are the powers that be making waaaay too many sequels these days?i know we have probably moaned about this before but i just gotta say something.i just 2day looked at movie mag Empire :eek: apon browsing the future releases for next yr it hit me....a mass of sequels,remakes n prequels :(

lets begin,bear in mind my memory is hazey now...

die hard 4,not too bad but should be laid to rest.
national tresure 2,why oh why oh why etc....
hannibal prequel,reasonable
remake of the thing,no no no no
remake of hellraiser,no no no no
remake of halloween by rob zombie,hahahaha no pls..yr joking
hills have eyes 2,why
rocky balboa,shit
saw 4,no more pls
hostel 2,ok i suppose but no more after that
fantastic 4 2,crap crap crap
resident evil 3,oh dear,apart from milla of course
bean 2,dont even go there
hoodwinked 2,what the hell??????

i dont know why they are remaking john carpenters movie backlog,they are all classics and there for cannot be remade,period,yr just asking for shite reviews,you'd have thought they would have learned by now,if they remake escape from new york i will cry..really i will.there are still some good things on the way,but they are way out numbered by dross in my opinion.sequels for everything and half the time even before they are released or despite how well they do.resident evil 3 :confused: national treasure 2 :confused: even before seeing a screen shot or reading a review or plot,i know i will be leaving those for the video shop...if that.

There are 7 books in the series, with the 7th book, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, to be released this year (rumoured date 07/07/07).

There has been no confirmation whether Harry will or wont die in the final book.

I think it's important to differentiate between sequels made purely for the sake of raking in some more cash, and sequels that are adaptations, i.e. there was a sequel in book form first, as with Harry Potter.

Definately agree there Anne.
I have no problems with sequels that are furthering the story or the characters (Bourne, Godfather, even Die Hard)
But i hate the sequels that are made for the pure $$$ results. (Meet the Fockers, Charlies Angels:Full Throttle to name two)

this may sound harsh but im a picky person to please,in my opinion most sequels these days are just cash ins,they are planned even before the original comes out,including potter,bourne,pirates etc... everything.all movies get turdy sequels these days,godfather,star wars etc... are the few that were special.they are even making a sequel for hoodwinked for christs sake :confused: why????


when the godfather,star wars etc... were made sequels were'nt really that usual,they happened but not alot,its only these days they try and drag decent films back from the past and ruin them in the process.sequels are made for the hell of it these days,anything made...u can guarantee there will be a sequel,anything,its rare when a sequel is not made.

That's why I made the point about differentiating between sequels for sequels' sake and ones where there's a book first, so I don't think you can lump Harry Potter (where each film is an adaptation) in with the original (as in not an adaptation of any kind) sequels like Pirates 2.

At the end of the day, the film industry is a business like any other. It's there to make money. I agree there are too many sequels and remakes out there, though.
