bringing up a subject that was done awhile back between horror icons freddy krueger n jason vorhees, which is better (also to get this area started) :) .i think jason is far superior to freddy,he's silent, extremely tough, very deadly and his methods show no bounds :) friday films r also much scarier n more tense than elm street, freddy has become abit of a joke recently, just to silly.there r more fridays but you know what to expect and people who go to see them love it,and simply jason is still very violent n very cool, the mask is pure horror genious.i must admit i loved freddy v jason, that was great, the only way freddy is any good anymore is with jason.jason winner by miles.dont even talk to me about mike myers hahahahahaha, although a mask of fatty william shatner is a scary thought ;)

what about these guys?

pumpkinhead
leprechaun
maniac cop
critter
pinhead
gremlin
anymore?

I prefer Jason too :).

Although the original Nightmare On Elm Street scared the buggery out of me when I first saw it (give me a break people, I was only 11), the film seems a lot tamer now, and it looks hideously dated aswell. But the Nightmare death scenes still help put the film on a bit of a pedestal as far as originality goes.

Friday the 13th scared the buggery out of me when I first watched it at age 11(it was a sneaky watch, nobody else in my household knew I saw it), and it still partially scares me to this day :o , aswell as the first few titles in the Friday series. But I am still happily awaiting the inevitable return of Jason :) , whenever it happens that is :( .

As far as other horror icons, there's Chucky, and as you mentioned the Leprechaun, I'm also going to put forward:

- Angela Baker (The Sleepaway Camp/Nightmare Vacation series)
- The Tall Man (The Phantasm series)

i think FREDDY was the best, liked the 1st one but loved the 3rd film better.

an even better horror movie character has to go to JEEPERS CREEPERS. he scares me especially in JEEPERS CREEPERS 2

Michael Myers has to be the best horror icon (apart from the old Universal monsters Dracula, Frankensteins Monster, The Wolf Man, The Mummy)

One that hasn't been mentioned, although it's not really one you'd call a horror icon. I was terrified of the Candyman when I was younger. My friend dared me to say his name in the mirror the requisite number of times, and when we went back to her living room (we were having a sleepover) the door started rattling. We all got totally freaked out and started screaming that the Candyman was coming for us. Turned out to be her cat trying to get into the room.

Candyman actually holds up pretty well if you watch it again now.

going on to the latest topic...i thought the first blair witch project was quite good.it shows that you dont have to have fancy cgi,big money or huge stars to make a decent film.the whole thing works on suggestion and mood, and it works really well,it made me feel uncomfortable and spooked me out alot.i liked the ending as again it was very creepy and you dont really know what happened, which made me think and creep me out even more :o
you also cant help wondering if there is any truth behind it,the fable or myth of the blair witch....thats where the net coverage was so good, also its one of those ancient things that could be real, you dont know, there are lots of myths and ghost stories based on actual facts through the ages...so who's to say the blair witch is'nt based on a fact, thats what makes it that little more creepy.
