Blu Beards.
The Lowdown: ZZ Top make their first ever live concert DVD and Blu-ray appearance and deliver an electrifying performance from their home state of Texas. The 17-track concert spans their entire career and includes all of the fan favourites, from ‘Legs’ to ‘Sharp Dressed Man’.
Review: Those beardy Texan troubadours enjoy their first ever live concert release to DVD and Blu-ray. Shot at the NOKIA Theatre Grand Prairie in front of over 6,000 fans, Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard unleash their unique brand of southern blues-infused rock throughout 17 tracks, featuring such legendary hits as ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’’, ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ and ‘Legs’.
Filmed with nine HD cameras, the relatively modest affair looks absolutely stunning on Blu-ray. With the camera up close and personal throughout, fans get the chance to really scrutinise the craggy old faces of the Texan trio. Indeed, the sharpness, detail and depth is astonishing, with the blue-lit stage shining bold and bright throughout the entire toe-tapping event. Every scraggly whisker on the frontmen’s faces is rendered with pin sharp clarity, and despite Live From Texas not being the most flamboyant of concerts, the solid set-list and crisp visuals make for a memorable ZZ Top experience.
The DTS Master Audio soundtrack provides the striking concert with impressive audio support, while the special features package includes enough additional material to keep fans happy. The ‘Poker Game’ featurette provides the most entertaining appendage, focusing on the three members of the band as they sit around, playing cards and chatting about the old days and the history of the band.
