The Shepherd

Review: An older, wiser Jean-Claude Van Damme re-enters the fray as Jack Robideaux, a rugged Texas cop who wages war on a posse of corrupt Navy Seals who are trying to traffic drugs from Mexico into the USA. He may be craggier than ever before, but the ‘Muscles From Brussels’ is still a badass, and handles himself well in the multiple fight scenes. Whether he’s kicking the shit out of boozy rednecks in a bar, engaging in a cage-fight with a bearded Mexican or tackling the unscrupulous villains, Van Damme’s combat scenes will thrill fans of his recent work. It isn’t as inventive as his classics, and the script is awfully clunky, but the movie generally delivers the goods. Interestingly, Van Damme takes a lot more punishment than most action heroes, especially when compared to his portly (but invincible) counterpart, Steve Seagal!
