Chasing Paris.

The Lowdown: Having never managed to get over Cristabelle – the girl he fancied back in elementary school – Nate Cooper travels to California to find her. Having successfully tracked the stunner down, Nate soon finds that she refuses to date anyone while her friend June is still single. Unfortunately, June’s none too pretty.

Review: When a film hits the Bottom 100 chart on IMDb, it’s a good indicator that you really shouldn’t be watching it. When a film lingers for some time in the top (or should that be bottom) ten, the rule of thumb is to avoid it as if it were a flesh-eating virus. Seeing as The Hottie & The Nottie is one of said movies, no one would expect a review to be exactly glowing. The truth is that while it is indeed a steaming great turd of a film, you can’t help but feel that those stats are more a reflection of worldwide aversion to Paris Hilton than a true reflection of the film’s quality. It’s crap alright, but not nearly as crap as you may have heard.

The main problem isn’t Miss Hilton’s attempt to act, the crude dialogue or even the copious amounts of plaque and pus, it’s the manner in which the film blindly ambles through each and every hoop, blissfully oblivious to the fact that even an infant could guess the entire narrative. In fact it’s so predictable that it borders on insulting. Elsewhere the acting isn’t really as bad as it is over-enthusiastic. As for the gags, 99% of them are just plain unfunny. Instead the movie heavily relies on gross-out moments such as rotten toenails landing in other peoples’ mouths. It all merges into a badly made film that never amuses or surprises, but also isn’t offensive enough to warrant it’s reputation.

One Review of “The Hottie & The Nottie”

  1. Ladyhawke Says:

When Nate Cooper’s girlfriend dumps him, he sets out to track down the love of his life, Cristabel, the girl he’s loved since 1st Grade. Unfortunately for Nate, not only does Cristabel have a large group of male admirers - she also has her ugly best friend, June, in tow too and won’t date Nate until June is fixed up with a guy of her own.

The film isn’t quite as bad as it’s made out to be - Joel David Moore is affable as Nate and gives the character a likeable, slightly moronic, geeky quality (think Ross from Friends crossed with Shaggy from Scooby Doo) while Paris Hilton is, well, just basically being Paris Hilton!

The film has some gross out moments which, with a better script, could have been funny, but as it is, they barely raise a smile. The ending is predictable, much like the film and I’d give it 2 stars.
