The Boys From Brazil

Review: While the late, great Gregory Peck will forever be remembered for portraying characters such as the good-natured lawyer Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird or Captain Ahab in Moby Dick, there’s rarely mention of his chilling stint as notorious Nazi physician Josef Mengele. Seething with malevolent venom, Peck’s portrayal of the Hitler-cloning scientist is reason enough to watch the film. Bundle it in with a harrowingly effective plot and other fine performances from Lawrence Olivier, Denholm Elliot and James Mason and you’ve got yourself a classic. Still, that’s not everything you’re after from a Blu-ray. Bearing a mono soundtrack, the film is less than aurally impressive but in terms of picture quality it’s grainy at points but generally sharp as a tack and nicely colourful. Just a shame it’s not a bit cheaper.
