Snuff Box

Issue 106 August 2008
Review: Late night BBC3 sensation Snuff Box sank without a trace despite its well-received introduction in 2006. Stars Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher met on the set of ‘The Mighty Boosh’, and the same gloriously skewed mindset informs this unusual sketch show. Rather than just offer up a compendium of off-the-wall sketches, the japes are framed by an ongoing back-story in which Berry is a hangman and Fulcher his assistant. The duo frequent a ‘gentlemen’s club for hangmen’, where they idle away the hours quaffing whisky and trading nonsensical one-liners. Although the chances of it returning to our screens are pretty slim, Snuff Box is a strangely appealing brew, hampered only by its inevitable repetitiveness. Nevertheless, if you are in the mood for something different, you could do a lot worse than checking out this DVD. Special features include a trio of audio commentaries, outtakes and an image gallery.
