Go Ride The Music + West Pole
Reviewer: Tom Leins
Issue 106 August 2008
Review: Following on from last year’s release of 60s San Francisco music bonanza, ‘A Night At The Family Dog’, Eagle Vision has unearthed another pair of archival TV recordings courtesy of famed TV producer Ralph J. Gleason. Part one, ‘Go Ride The Music’, captures Jefferson Airplane and Quicksilver Messenger Service in all their tie-dyed concert glory, whilst ‘West Pole’ is a televisual essay on the San Francisco scene, hosted by Gleason himself. These offerings are undoubtedly interesting to anyone who yearns for an authentic taste of 60s hippie rock, but the crusty old visuals are seriously dire and make it tough to enjoy. Young rock fans will be perplexed by this widely overlooked dose of rock marginalia, but acid casualties may find is useful to soothe their frazzled minds. In short: it may be a mouldy old curio, but it is a curio nonetheless…
