Review: While there are a plethora of crime shows on TV, few are as effortlessly enjoyable as NCIS, which follows a group of US Navy cops as they investigate all manner of military based murder and mayhem. This season starts with lead agent Gibbs having retired after being in a coma towards the end of Season 3. However he’s soon back in the fray with his no nonsense style, ensuring no naval criminal will go unpunished. There’s also an ongoing plot involving NCIS Director Shepard’s obsession with catching shady arms dealer, La Grenouille. While replacing Sasha Alexander with Cote De Pablo between seasons 2 and 3 threatened to destabilise the show, these 24 episodes show that NCIS is still at the top of its game, and a must have for any crime show fans.

One Review of “NCIS – Season 4”

  1. ukclp Says:

This is by far the best crime show on television, but is one that seems to have slipped by without most people noticing it. Granted, airing it on FX may not bring it into the public eye as fast as some others, but it is a gem.
The current team, under Jethro Gibbs, has now been together for some time, and each character has grown. Jethro is no-nonsense with his Marine background, but there is a lot of sexual tension between him and the Director, Lauren Holly. She was in the field with him years ago and they still hold a flame for each other, but nothing ever comes of it. Thankfully, that is the onl;y real romantic part of the show, and it really is more about the crimes and how they are solved, and not a soap opera like many other shows.
Aby, the gothic forensic scientist, is a wonderful character, and seems to be the only team member who can really relate to Gibbs. The other team members seem to be caught between fear and awe for their leader! There are some fabulous moments when Gibbs appears almost psychic and can read his team like a book. The fiery Mossad agent, quiet geek with a heart of gold, and self-proclaimed ladies’ man (recently trying to be a one-woman-man) all have their parts to play and do so with unfailing loyalty to their boss. Ducky, the medical examiner, is played by David McCallum, and is suitably eccentric.
The cases are all interesting, with many a twist, but always include a fascinating insight into how the Navy investigate crimes by and against their people.
If you have never seen an episode, then I urge you to do so. You will be hooked!
