Freebird is an amiable biker comedy from the producers of Snatch and Layer Cake. It follows a trio of motorcycle couriers who set off towards the Welsh mountains for the weekend, determined to track down an enigmatic hippy and his notorious cannabis farm! Drugs play a key role in proceedings, and anyone expecting a British answer to Wild Hogs will be surprised to see Freebird veer off into seriously warped territory, with a memorable hallucinogenic interlude. Freebird is watchable, with some amusing elements but overall it struggles with a lack of purpose. Phil Daniels turn as perma-stoned Grouch is engaging enough, but Gary Stretch, who impressed so much in Dead Man’s Shoes, seems badly out of his depth in something this lighthearted. A second bonus disc includes interviews, audio commentary, deleted scenes and a behind-the-scenes featurette.
