Sandler gets shouty… again.
The Lowdown: When mild-mannered businessman, Dave Buznik (Sandler), is unfairly charged with assaulting a flight attendant, he is ordered by the court to attend anger management classes. However, anger specialist Dr. Buddy Rydell’s unorthodox treatments play havoc with Dave’s personal life.
Review: Even the most stubborn Sandler naysayer will struggle to hold back the odd smirk when watching Peter Segal’s entertaining stab at American pop psychology. To be honest though, most of the laughs derive from Jack Nicholson, the supporting cast (John C. Reilly and Woody Harrelson enjoy some amusing cameo stints) and a variety of effective gags, while Sandler delivers only manages to deliver one of his less irritating performances.
While not really a heavyweight Blu-ray contender, the film holds its own on the high definition format, and a quick comparison with the previously released DVD reveals a much cleaner and colourful picture, especially during daylight exterior scenes. However, interior shots fail to dazzle, and the overall Blu-ray experience is rather underwhelming compared with most, complete with a lack of depth and a flat, dull picture that never really comes to life. The audio never gets a chance to shine either, though the music score and some of Sandler’s anger explosions sound solid enough.
Little effort has been made with the special features, which basically consist of the same old list of extras we were given back in 2003 on the standard DVD (minus the interactive game from the DVD). It’s a lazy package, though having seen the Blu-ray going for around a tenner online, it might be worth an investment for Sandler/Nicholson fans.
