Pole Position

Review: 80s cartoon Pole Position shares a name with the ‘classic’ videogame of the same era, but that’s as far as the similarities go. Although the show originated in America in 1984, it didn’t make a splash on these shores until ‘Going Live’ snapped it up in the early 90s. After Tess and Dan Darret’s parents die in a tragic road accident, the sibling stunt drivers take on their parent’s secret government activities and protect the world against spies, thieves, illusionists and other ne’er-do-wells. The talking vehicles recall ‘Knight Rider’, and the show arguably follows Hasselhoff’s well-worn tyre-tracks. It’s enjoyable in a naff sort of way, but beware, the rather measly selection of 13 half-hour episodes are spread rather thinly over four discs, providing poor value for money at 30 quid…
