Dead rubbish.

The Lowdown: When a viral outbreak occurs in a Colorado town, the military arrives to quarantine the area and stop the spread. Things take a nasty turn when the bug begins turning those infected into flesh hungry zombies, thus leaving the uninfected folk to band together to try and escape the carnage.

Review:
In 2004, horror fans the world over were wowed by Zack Snyder’s version of Dawn Of The Dead. A rare gem, the remake of the George A. Romero’s classic wasn’t just a respectful homage to the finest zombie movie of all time, it was also bloody good fun in its own right. If you’d been hoping for Steve Miner’s take on the third film in the Dead series to display the same kind of care and attention, then you’re going to be sadly disappointed -especially if you judged the disc by its superb lenticular cover.

A haphazard slice of undead nonsense, Day Of The Dead
bears all the hallmarks of a 90s TV movie. The effects are laughably dodgy, the CGI is cartoonishly bad and the cast seems to have given up on trying to deliver convincing performances. Even more disturbing, there’s little within the film that even resembles Romero’s original. There’s a character called Bub and the military feature prominently but that’s about all you’re getting. Even the social commentary that suggests humans are more dangerous than zombies has been switched in favour of a dig at army grunts following orders so mindlessly. The one redeeming feature is that Mena Suvari at least seems to be taking things seriously – unfortunately, she’s trying to hold fort by herself. As for the features, the trailers are naff, the commentary is absurdly enthusiastic as are the interviews. The result is a title that you’d have to be braindead to enjoy.
